Inspired by the song Grow As We Go and the indoor houseplants at his place when I visited him. Tropical begonias and monstera — living their best lives (barely) in gloomy Vancouver. In a way, I felt like I identified with them: trying to thrive in a rainy city halfway around the world.⁠ Like plants, relationships need the right care and environment to thrive. They ask for commitment and accountability, not just affection and presence. But sometimes, no matter how much you water (or use grow lights), things grow in different directions.⁠

I think I finally get it: maybe we’re just here to enjoy each other’s company when life allows — to care without claiming, to "ebb and flow" side by side and still bloom. We don’t need to own each other to appreciate what we have.⁠ I’ll still care, still love, but without the pressure of permanence. Cherish it while it lasts, without holding on too tight or forcing how it should unfold.⁠ This painting is my way of holding that feeling.
