Original painting from Life As A Playlist Collection. Inspired by John Mayer's song, Why You No Love Me. Those lyrics hit me like a confession we’ve all made at some point. Hurt me once, shame on you. Hurt me twice, shame on me. But to be hurt a third time… that’s something else entirely. That’s the kind of hurt we only allow from the people we love so deeply that logic stops applying. Those closest to us often are able to hurt us the most.
In the painting, the woman wears a crisp white blouse, but her softness is pierced by thorns growing directly from her skin. It's is a symbolism inspired by one of my own cacti. I’ve always been fascinated by how cacti evolved: tender flesh wrapped in armor. Not because they want to push others away, but because surviving the environment demanded it.
